About EMO

The Chamber, which was established as the Chamber of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in 1969 under the presidency of Osman Bosan, continued on its way by being approved as the "Chamber of Electrical Engineers (EMO)" at the general assembly held in 1971 after the Mechanical Engineers established a separate Chamber.

EMO has been operating under the "Union of the Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects Law" enacted on April 21, 1976, and renewed in parliament in 2005. As one of the most deep-rooted professional organizations in our country that emerged from within the Turkish Cypriot community, it undertakes important duties such as supervising and regulating the application of the electrical engineering profession in international standards. It incorporates members who graduated from numerous fields such as Electrical, Electronic, Communication, Energy Systems, Mechatronics, and Biomedical Engineering. Our members provide added value to our country by working both in public institutions and organizations and in the private sector and academic fields.

The Chamber carries out the task of controlling and issuing Visas for Electrical Projects applied at the Low Voltage level in the TRNC, in accordance with the electrical installation regulations in force. No Electrical Project that is not visaed by a member authorized by EMO can be legally applied.

One of the important activities carried out within the Chamber is the "Contractor Authorization Certificate" exams held every year. With the written and practical exams, authorization classes in different powers are determined. In this way, it continues its duties in an integrated manner with the duties of regulating and executing the electrical installation regulations that we have undertaken.

Our Chamber issues pre-approval documents in order to ensure the quality, safe use and compliance of electrical materials, electrical devices and hand tools imported to the TRNC with the relevant standards. Our laboratory, which was put into service on April 6, 2006, was established in order to constitute the guarantee of the safe use of electrical materials in our country.

It plays a pioneering role in environmental awareness by meeting 80% of its energy consumption from the sun thanks to the solar energy system established within our laboratory building.

There are many turning points for our Chamber. Some of these are;

  • The passage of the "KTMMOB Chamber of Electrical Engineers Regulation" passed in 1976
  • "Professional Services Audit Regulation" put into practice in 1980
  • Pre-approval practice that started to be given within the scope of the foreign trade regulation
  • Publication of emo science magazine in 2001
  • EMO Laboratory Building that became operational in 2006
  • emo laboratory that completed the accreditation process to türkak in 2017
  • International CIGRE (international council on large electric systems) which became a member in 2018
  • Publication of "GUIDE" in 2019
  • e-pre-approval and e-visa applications put into effect within the scope of digital transformation in 2019
  • We organize trainings and seminars, domestic and international technical and social trips for our members to adapt to the changing conditions of the day.

Our Chamber is also an institution that has TSE-ISO en 9000 quality management system and TSE ISO 10002 customer satisfaction management system certifications.

Measurement and test reliability has been provided with TÜRKAK Accreditation in order to be able to perform tests in international standards and gain validity. In this context, one of the most important steps has been taken for the international vision of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers. EMO Laboratory also has the distinction of being the first and only accredited laboratory on electricity in the TRNC.

EMO is a professional organization that follows and applies professional developments in the world with the power it receives from its members and history, walks towards its future goals faster and more effectively with the vision of digital transformation, and will continue its breakthrough and development within the framework of the vision of internationalization. With the awareness we will provide to our country and profession within the framework of this vision, we aim to offer the highest standards to both our members and our society.

Chamber of Electrical Engineers Laboratory

The efforts made by our chamber for the day-by-day development of our chamber laboratory and the devices in it to reach world standards have yielded results, and it has started to serve the State in addition to the demand of the companies. For this purpose, the tests of the lamps given as samples by the companies in the Energy Saving Lamp tender opened by the Electricity Authority and the Ministry of Finance and followed by the Central Tender Commission were carried out in the laboratory of our Chamber, and the necessary reports were forwarded to the Central Tender Commission for a fee.

Researches were made for the training sets planned to be purchased for educational purposes to the laboratory, and 2 sets were purchased from the Italian Delorenzo company. These purchased training sets were also used for Practical Exam Purposes in the Contractor Authorization Certificate exams held on November 17-18.
